Still life Painting Febuary 2009
still life with grape, orange, wine, etc detail
This is the first and only (so far) painting complete in 2009. After finishing the painting i did for David just months ago, I decided that I loved that one so much, i’m going to do one for myself. I set it up similar to the original except I can’t paint cheese, so i decided to go with some fruit. This one took about a month to do, again, play movie while working on it. I think Harry Potter was a popular theme in those nights.

The good part of this painting is the use of the oil paint’s thickness to convey texture. I was a little lose with my use of paint and color. My grapes are also more refined after practice with the previous painting. The down side is again my old habit of painting too much. Some part are way too detailed than my original plan and I did not achieve the half finished look like the other one.
The painting looked alright when finished. I should not have painted the wine bottle in such detail, and should’ve refined the wine glass more. It looked thick in the end and didn’t have the crystal clear feeling i was looking for. But all in all, it was a success in its own right. I’m fairly happy with it, and its now hanging in the Houston house. Compare to my previous work… easily the most appealing painting I have ever done.
